What a week!! Reminescent of the 1962 novel by Ray Bradbury..there seems to be true wickedness in the air. Only wickedness could so easily take the life of a child. Being a school nurse for 28 years I have really watched a great many children grow from year to year even become parents themselves. In this time I have seen several tragedies ...From cancer to accidents these young lives cut short, It never seems to get any easier. My heart aches with grief for the family and friends of these babies that have passed on. This week I grieve for a 13 year old who was killed in a motorized bike accident. I have known him since kindergarden...such a sweet kid... A bit shy at first but by 4th grade he had really found his "nitch". We called him "Smiley", Everyone's friend..kids are devastated by his sudden death. They have so many questions, but mostly it is "why",,, How do we help them through the pain? There are no quick fixes or easy answers. All we can do is listen, really listen to them, hold them and let them cry, let the grieve their classmate.
It has been 27 years since I lost my baby girl and my heart still aches for what should have been.
